We've just received our first inkling that Samsung is nearing the official public launch of the now-delayed OneUI 8.5 beta firmware update, replete with 2 potentially major camera-related changes.

Samsung typically launches the public OneUI beta firmware update just a few weeks after it becomes visible on its internal servers

The first beta build for Samsung's OneUI 8.5 has now been spotted on Samsung's internal test servers. This is an important milestone as the South Korean behemoth typically opens its OneUI beta to the public just a few weeks after the firmware update becomes visible on its test servers.

While the public launch of the beta build was previously expected in November, that timeline appears unrealistic now. Instead, Samsung is likely to open the OneUI 8.5 beta to the public in December.

For reference, do note that the OneUI 7 beta was opened to the public around 24 days after the firmware update was spotted on Samsung's internal test servers. Similarly, the OneUI 8 beta became accessible to the public just 17 days after it was located on the test servers. Consequently, as per the past precedent, we can expect a public rollout of the OneUI 8.5 beta between 2 and 3 weeks from today.

Meanwhile, SamMobile was able to discover that the OneUI 8.5 beta test build currently lacks Single Take and Dual Rec camera modes. As a refresher, the former is an AI-powered feature that extracts multiple photos from a short video clip, while the latter allows for the recording of a video while using two cameras at the same time, including the front and rear cameras.

Of course, given the test-related nature of the current beta build, it is entirely possible that this elimination is a result of a bug that has yet to be neutralized. Alternatively, Samsung might well be preparing to replace these two camera modes with something new in the OneUI 8.5 firmware update.

Additionally, as we reported recently, Samsung is now apparently onboarding the ability via the OneUI 8.5 firmware update to transfer an eSIM phone number from an iPhone to a compatible Galaxy device, and that too without involving a carrier, bridging a notorious compatibility issue between Apple and Android devices.

Samsung's OneUI 8.5 update will also introduce smarter Wi-Fi controls, including Real-Time Data Priority Mode, which establishes a hierarchy as to the use of cellular data by various apps, as well as AI-driven automatic switching between Wi-Fi and cellular broadband.
