The world’s second triple-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, has finally materialized as Samsung lifts the wraps of perhaps its most ambitious product in the smartphone category. The company has provided extensive details regarding the flagship, such as how it was engineered, its specifications, and so much more, so let us not waste any precious time and jump into the details immediately.
Design and display
Samsung says that the folding mechanism has been precisely engineered for the opening and closing of the Galaxy Z TriFold, with the company refining the Armor FlexHinge. Now, there are two different-sized hinges holding the device in place, with both sporting a dual-rail structure to create a stable handset despite the triple-folding smartphone having a weight that varies across its surface. The material used for the hinge is titanium, with a thin piece of metal protecting the folding mechanism, and it resists wear over time.
The Galaxy Z TriFold’s frame is made of Advanced Armor Aluminum, which is a high-strength alloy that increases structural integrity without increasing the bulk or weight. There is also a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer rear panel that keeps the design thin and resistant to cracks. Given the complexities of the design, the Korean giant claims that every single unit undergoes a series of strict quality control checks to ensure it passes the stringent tests.
Coming to the display, when completely unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold sports a 10-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED screen with a 2,160 x 1,584 resolution and a 1,600 nits peak brightness. The refresh rate hovers between 1Hz and 120Hz to save battery life. The main display covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color range, with the cover display sporting a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED technology with a 2,520 x 1,080 resolution and a 2,600 nits peak brightness.
Just like the larger 10-inch panel, the smaller 6.5-inch screen also supports an adaptive refresh rate that has a range of 1-120Hz. At its thinnest point, the Galaxy Z TriFold measures 3.9mm and weighs 309 grams. The Galaxy Z TriFold is IP48 dust and water-resistant, with the cover display protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
Hardware specifications
Instead of the newest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Samsung has opted for the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, which is made on TSMC’s 3nm ‘N3E’ process. It is possible the company chose an older SoC to save on component costs, and we say this because there are only two variants of the Galaxy Z TriFold with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM that are either paired with 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. Unfortunately, storage expansion through a microSD card isn’t possible.
Camera
There is a robust optics configuration belonging to the Galaxy Z TriFold, starting with the primary 200MP shooter that has an F/1.7 aperture, followed by a 12MP ultrawide-angle sensor with a 120-degree FOV. There is also a third telephoto 10MP unit that can capture 3x lossless zoom and 30x digital zoom. The front side comprises of a single 10MP F/2.2 camera present at the cover display, with another 10MP F/2.2 unit present on the main screen, sporting a 100-degree FOV.
Battery
Keeping the lights on is a 5,600mAh battery, making it 600mAh more than the capacity found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the highest capacity found in any of Samsung’s foldable smartphones to date. The cell supports 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Price, Color, & Availability
Samsung has mentioned that only one paint job will be offered with the Galaxy Z TriFold, which is Crafted Black, hinting that the company will not have sufficient units in production or in retail. According to a previous report, the triple-folding smartphone will cost $2,447, making it just a little more expensive than Apple’s iPhone Fold, which is estimated to set consumers back by $2,399.
The Galaxy Z TriFold’s official release is slated to happen on December 12 in Korea, with other regions including China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE to follow. As for the U.S., 9to5Google reports that the device will be delayed in this country, but is scheduled to arrive in Q1 2026.
