Samsung is gearing up to unveil its next flagship series and intends to follow its usual pattern for the launch window, somewhere in January 2026. While the current models have been a huge improvement over their predecessors, the tech giant seems to be shaking things up further with the Galaxy S26 lineup next year by replacing the typical Plus model with a follow-up of the Galaxy S25 Edge and then swapping out the standard device for the Galaxy S26 Pro. A new leak has emerged, giving us a clear picture of what to expect from the upcoming S26 Pro, and from what we know so far, it does look familiar.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro leak suggests compact flagship is not going anywhere
As per a new leak by tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Pro will continue with the small screen size. It looks like compact flagship smartphones are not going anywhere anytime soon. By doing so, Samsung is ensuring that for users who prefer to have a device that is ergonomically friendly, there is still a premium option available. The leak also gives us a closer look at the specifications of the upcoming Pro model.
The S26 Pro model will sport a 6.27-inch display, which, if compared to the Galaxy S25, is an incremental increase in the display. The minor change allows the phone to continue falling under the compact category, especially if we keep in view the larger displays of the other flagship smartphones. While the S26 Pro is expected to come in a small screen size, the battery is getting an upgrade, moving from the 4,000 mAh battery capacity to 4,300 mAh. With the increase in battery capacity, the S26 Pro would be able to offset one of the usual downsides of compact smartphones, and that is the limited battery life. Whether or not it will improve real-world performance and be able to handle Samsung's processor and screen power efficiently is yet to be seen.
Samsung, by opting for the Pro branding, is also signaling a shift in its positioning and naming strategy. This could indicate that the S26 Pro is taking the place of the standard model and sitting alongside the Ultra and Edge models. It will help streamline the tech giant's lineup and set the model as the entry point for the S-series, mirroring Apple's strategy.
Given that the industry is heading in a different direction and is more focused on bigger models, Samsung’s decision to keep a small model in the flagship range is noteworthy, especially considering how rare compact options are now. If the S26 Pro offers performance upgrades, it could end up being the most balanced flagship on the market in 2026.
