Samsung has made some interesting choices with its smartphone lineup so far, but customers who spent a premium to get their hands on the base Galaxy S24 will probably feel the Galaxy A55 launch as a punch in the gut. This is because the company not only outfits its latest mid-ranger with some impressive features, but the top-end variant ships with more RAM than a model that costs more.
Galaxy A55 is a terrific option for those who do not want to spend flagship-level funds by offering customers high-end features, but it is imperative to purchase the top-end model
One of the biggest differences between the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A54 is that instead of a plastic frame, Samsung is using an aluminum chassis. It will not just improve the latest model’s aesthetics but also its durability, giving potential buyers the impression that they are about to invest in a premium handset. For now, Samsung has announced that the Galaxy A55 will be available in European markets starting March 20 and in two storage and RAM configurations. The base version with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal memory is said to be priced at €479, or $524.
However, we firmly believe that you should invest in the 12GB RAM and 256GB variant, though it will cost €529, or around $579. As for the other specifications, it looks as if Samsung paid attention to its customers this time. The fact that losing its number one spot as the world’s biggest smartphone maker to rival Apple may have also forced the company to evaluate its non-flagship models to see how their value could improve with future releases. The Galaxy A55 sports a rather large 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution and support for a 120Hz refresh rate.
The mid-ranger is fueled by the Exynos 1480, and you can already guess that it is slower than the Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the base Galaxy S24. The latest model also comes with IP67 dust and water-resistance ratings, a large 5,000mAh battery that can be topped up with a supported 25W power adapter, and a feature not present in any of Samsung’s high-end smartphones, expandable storage through a microSD slot, up to 1TB. Samsung also promises four years of software updates and five years of security updates, which will be plentiful, assuming you intend to keep this device for a few years.
The Galaxy A55 also has a decent camera array, with a triple sensor setup at the back, followed by a 32MP shooter at the front. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Samsung has not confirmed if it intends to bring the Galaxy A55 or the cheaper Galaxy A35 to the U.S. market. Hopefully, we may get to see some positive development from the company, and we will be sure to update our readers in the future, so stay tuned.
