Only yesterday, we talked about Samsung’s 4TB 990 PRO solid-state drive available for $279.99 as part of Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, but here is a surprise that probably no one saw coming. The exact same model that ships with a heatsink pre-attached has received another price cut and is now listed for $265.99, making it one of its all-time lowest listings. We do not know if the 990 PRO will become any cheaper, but we do know this; the deal will expire as soon as Prime Big Deal Days ends, so make the most of this opportunity.
Even now, the Samsung 990 PRO, which does not feature a heatsink, is available for the same $289.99 price, making it less of a valuable proposition. For those who think that the heatsink cannot be removed, it is reasonably easy to remove the accessory, but like every other delicate item, you have to be gentle with it. As for the speeds, those upgrading to the 990 PRO know exactly what they are getting themselves into and that is experiencing blazing-fast speeds and a ton of storage at their fingertips.
For those who have yet to decide whether to install the 990 PRO in their PC, laptop, or PS5, the 4TB version can reach 7,450MB/s and sequential write speeds that can touch 6,900MB/s. In other words, you will probably forget about having a slow system after installing one of these. Currently, this is Samsung’s fastest PCIe NVMe Gen 4 drive available, but only if you plug it into a vacant M.2 slot that supports the PCIe NVMe Gen 4 standard.
If that is not the case, the 990 PRO is backwards compatible, but you will be leaving a little performance on the table. In any case, if there is an additional price reduction on the 4TB SSD, we will make darn sure to update our readers.
