RAM And SSDs Sell For Thousands Of Dollars At Micro Center Even As Inventory Remains Full

A display case containing various G.SKILL RAM modules and WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSDs, with the SSDs prominently labeled as '4TB' and '7300 MB/s,' showing a price tag of $1,272.99 for one item.

Talk about the shortage? Micro Center seems to have plenty of memory and storage drives, but the volatile market keeps pushing the prices up.

Micro Center Packed With SSDs And RAM Spotted Selling 2 TB SSD At $699, And 128 GB DDR5 Memory Kit At A Whopping $4199

Looks like some retailers have enough for their inventories, but you still can't escape the inflated prices. Micro Center is one of the major retailers in the US, and it usually prices its products pretty well. While you will mostly find cheaper hardware in the store, RAM and SSD remain out of reach for the masses. Surprisingly, even when we see reports suggesting "huge" RAM and SSD shortages, a Micro Center store seems to have plenty of those, but due to the instability and volatility in the market, these products are still selling at sky-high prices.

The Redditor u/Hell-Diver7 just posted some pics of his local Micro Center, revealing how packed the shelves are with high-end RAM and SSD drives. It appears that the SSD prices have indeed gone up by 200% as we reported recently. Both WD and Samsung have reportedly silently increased the prices for their NVMeSSDs, and as you can see in the pics, the Samsung 9100 PRO SSD starts at $679 for 2 TB capacity and goes all the way up to $2719.

We checked on the Micro Center website, and can confirm that the prices are exactly how the pics showed. Similarly, the WD_Black SN8100 is selling for $699 for a 2 TB capacity, and the 4 TB edition is selling for a $1,272. RAM pricing is particularly interesting, given that the shelves are full of these. A single 32 GB Ripjaws DDR5 RAM kit (single module) currently sits at a staggering $699, while the 64 GB kit is selling for $859.

When you move to a different vendor, things look even more messed up as Corsair's Vengeance RGGB 128 GB DDR5-6400 kit is selling for a whopping $4,199. This is even higher than the current selling price for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. The cost for every GB of DDR5 capacity appears to be around $32, which is insane. Thankfully, on Amazon, a 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6400 kit costs less than $400 at the moment, but Micro Center appears to be in a pricing league of its own.
