Qualcomm is rumored to be preparing a brand new datacenter CPU, which will be just in time to power growing Agentic AI needs.
Rumors that Qualcomm's New Datacenter CPU is just a few months away may not sound crazy, given the demand there is for agentic AI
There's a rumor going around that Qualcomm is working on its very own "dedicated" Datacenter CPU based on the Arm architecture.
Qualcomm making its own Datacenter CPU at some point was expected, but what the new rumor is suggesting is that we could see that chip being announced as early as June this year. This makes the processor right on time to serve the needs of Agentic AI customers.
There have been several hints before this one on a Qualcomm Datacenter CPU. The company currently offers its Datacenter solutions in the form of accelerator cards and racks. These are mostly based on the company's Hexagon NPUs and AI accelerators designed for inference workloads.
But Qualcomm has been acquiring CPU talents for its development efforts. Last year, Qualcomm hired a former Intel Xeon chief architect and also acquired Ventana Micro Systems, a startup developing CPUs based on the RISC-V instruction set. In May last year, Qualcomm also announced that they have signed an MoU with HUMAIN, a Saudi-based AI firm, for the development of cutting-edge AI and CPU solutions.
Intel's EMIB and advanced packaging solutions have also been discussed as an attractive go-to technology for Qualcomm's CPU ventures. But here's the deal: Qualcomm is close to NVIDIA in the AI segment, and CNBC posted soon after Qualcomm's own HUMAIN announcement that the new CPUs could be paired with NVIDIA's chips. NVIDIA currently relies on its own Vera/Grace CPUs for rack-scale AI servers, while also leveraging Intel Xeon for a certain set of AI offerings.

Qualcomm Data Center Solutions is developing state-of-the-art data center CPU solutions. Stay tuned for more details.
So, with Agentic AI once again bringing CPUs back into the discussion, it looks like Qualcomm has centered its focus on finalizing the plans for a Datacenter CPU that can attract many customers. June isn't far away, so we might learn soon enough if the rumor holds any weight.
