QuakeCon 2023 is being held today, and as rumored, the show kicked off with some news about the series that started it all. Quake II has been enhanced and remastered for modern platforms by Nightdive Studios with 4K visuals and widescreen support, online play, and a number of other visual tweaks (while retaining the game’s overall classic look). Players can also look forward to some fun bonuses with this new version of Quake, including Quake II 64, the game’s original mission pack expansions “The Reckoning” and “Ground Zero,” and an all-new expansion from MachineGames entitled “Call of the Machine.” You can check out a quick trailer for the new version of Quake II, below.

Here’s a bit more information on how Quake has been enhanced for new platforms.

And here’s some info on the new Call of the Machine expansion…

“A brand-new Quake II experience from MachineGames consisting of 28 campaign levels and one multiplayer deathmatch map. In the depths of Strogg space lies the Machine, a singularity capable of collapsing the fabric of reality. Fight across time and space to find the Strogg-Maker, destroy it, and change the destiny of man and machine.”

The Quake Remaster is available now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Switch. This version of the game and all its bonus content will set you back $10 or can be played via Game Pass.
