PS5 sales in the UK have jumped 60% year-to-date while sales of both Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch are down compared to last year.

This info comes from global market intelligence firm Gfk, which data was summarized by GamesIndustry.biz just now. According to the outlet's Christopher Dring, overall console sales were up 22% in August compared to July 2023. Most of these increased sales are due to PS5 sales (42% sales increase), but Microsoft's Xbox Series X|S also sold better (7% month-on-month) last month than the month before that. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch sales are down 5% in August compared to July. As for year-to-date (the period between the beginning of the year and the present) sales, only Sony's console did better than the same period last year - PS5 sales increased by 60% while Nintendo Switch sales declined 10% compared to last year. Sales of the Xbox Series X|S are down 23% year-to-date.

As also reported by Dring, the top six accessories sold last in the month of August were all for Sony's console with the first four on the accessories charts being DualSense controller variations (Standard white, Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, and Starlight Blue). The DualSense Charging Station took the fifth spot on the chart while the Grey Camo DualSense controller came in at spot number six.

Of course, it should be noted that the UK is among the strongest markets for Sony, but as reported last month, the PlayStation 5 is selling extremely well in the US as well - Sony's console is currently ahead of the PS4 in time-aligned sales. Last month, Sony published its financial results for the first quarter of its current Fiscal Year, revealing that PS5 sales have surpassed 41.7 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Xbox Series X|S is down 10% from the Xbox One. Interestingly, some months ago, Microsoft seemingly accidentally revealed that Xbox Series sales surpassed 21 million units worldwide. The Switch keeps selling incredibly well in the US with Nintendo's hybrid platform recently surpassing Wii lifetime sales.
