Project Fi is now Google Fi and has a brand new logo. Along with the name change, Google has announced that the wireless provider now supports "the majority of Android devices," including Samsung and OnePlus handsets, and iPhones. To sweeten the pot, anyone who purchases a phone through Google Fi before 11:59 PM PT can get up to a $1,000 credit from Airbnb, Hotels.com, Southwest Airlines, or Delta Air Lines. Bear in mind that there is a significant amount of fine print that you need to go through, but here's a rough tl;dr of the deal.
- The gift card amount will be precisely the amount you pay for your new device. For example, if you're getting a 64GB Pixel 3 for $799, the gift card will only be worth $799. If the device you buy costs more than $1,000, though, the gift card will still only be $1,000.
- The offer cannot be combined with other offers such as trade-in credit.
- The device must be activated within 15 days of device shipment and remain active for 60 consecutive days within 75 days of device shipment
- If the service is paused for more than 7 days or cancelled within 120 days of activation, the value of the gift card will be charged to your Google Payments account.
- If you're a new customer, you have to port in your current personal phone number during sign up which must be currently active.
- The device must be activated within the same group plan that was used to purchase the device.
- Activation must be for full service, not a data-only SIM.
- The offer is only available for US residents ages 18 and up, and requires Google Payments and Google Fi accounts.
- The offer is limited to one use per person.
If everything goes well, here is how it's going to pan out for you.
- You will receive an email from Google Fi around 75 to 90 days after device activation.
- That email will provide instructions on how to obtain the gift card.
- You can then redeem the gift card amount at Airbnb, Delta, Hotels.com, or Southwest which will be subject to their own terms.
If you don't want to purchase a new device but are still interested in trying out Google Fi, the company is also offering a $200 Fi service credit for activating your device on the network. Bear in mind that the offer is only valid for today.
