The only way to experience AAA PC gaming on an Android smartphone is through emulation, and we all know how well that typically turns out. Fortunately, there have been a multitude of instances where intricate testing has led to individuals firing up non-native titles on their handsets, but sadly, this is not one of those occasions. One intrepid Galaxy S23 Ultra owner attempted to run Capcom’s upcoming PRAGATA demo, only to encounter an error, which is understandable given that the device features an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Outdated graphics drivers likely prevented PRAGMATA from firing up on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2; those with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Snapdragon 8 Elite devices could have better luck
On the r/EmulationOnAndroid sub-Reddit, we stumbled upon a Galaxy S23 Ultra owner with the username ‘segal03’ who tried running PRAGMATA on his device using GameHub, only to be met with a ‘Fatal D3D error.’ Under extremely rare circumstances, we have encountered this problem when games would spontaneously crash, but that was due to a lack of optimization rather than outdated graphics drivers.
On this occasion, the error was likely due to outdated and unsupported graphics drivers, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is now more than three years old. To be fair, ‘segal03,’ the person who posted the screenshot of the error, cannot be blamed for trying out the demo, given that it only takes up 7GB of internal storage.
Other Redditors have commented that the problem encountered is most likely a combination of a lack of power and compatibility, meaning that Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Snapdragon 8 Elite device owners could experience better luck in firing up the game. As for our own experience in running the game on PC, it was an enjoyable one, with RE Engine once again delivering a smooth and polished finish that will probably be witnessed once PRAGMATA releases on multiple platforms.
Speaking of release, Capcom’s upcoming title is due for a launch on April 24, with the demo currently available on PC for you to try out. Capcom hasn’t commented on whether PRAGMATA will launch for iOS or Android, but if Resident Evil 4 Remake, another title made on the RE Engine, can launch for iPhones and deliver an above-satisfactory experience, there’s no reason why PRAGMATA shouldn’t be ported either.
