A new memory record has been made by the popular overclocker Saltycroissant and even though the score couldn't achieve the top position, doing it using ambient cooling is insanely impressive.
Saltycroissant Pushes DDR5 Memory to 12,917 MT/s on Z890 AORUS Tachyon Duo X ICE Without Nitrogen Cooling
This isn't your original Z890 AORUS Tachyon, which overclockers used to break overclocking records with; it's the newer Z890 AORUS Tachyon Duo X ICE, which GIGABYTE released earlier this year. Having seen DDR5 memory world records getting broken every week or two, a new world record doesn't appear surprising to us, except this one, which isn't even a new world record.
This is particularly amazing as the prominent overclocker "Saltycroissant" used ambient cooling for his memory setup, and without even using LN2 cooling, he was able to reach nearly 13,000 MT/s. We are currently sitting at a whopping 13,530 MT/s DDR5 memory speed, achieved by the popular German overclocker "sergmann" on the GIGABYTE Z890 Aorus Tachyon ICE. Saltycroissant used the latest Tachyon "Duo X" ICE edition, which is specially crafted for CQDIMM memory modules.
CQDIMM memory brings a clock driver on the RAM module to enhance signal integrity, allowing for reaching higher memory speeds. Despite featuring an 8-layer PCB, the Z890 Aorus Tachyon Duo X ICE seems to have a clear upper hand over the original Tachyon ICE motherboard when it comes to memory overclocking. While GIGABYTE has officially advertised up to 10,400 MT/s on the new motherboard, Saltycroissant was able to crank up his Corsair Vengeance 24 GB DDR5 memory to a whopping 6458.7 MHz or 12,917 MT/s using air cooling.
Well it turns out even on ambient this new Z890 Tachyon DUO X ICE can do some funny.... looking foward to try it cold. - Saltycroissant (FB)
This is the craziest part since most records have been achieved using LN2 cooling. Surprisingly, the timings weren't affected that much when compared to similar records. Saltycroissant did try LN2 later and achieved a staggering 13,407.8 MT/s on the same motherboard. It's not the best score out there, but it's in the 3rd position in the HWBot leaderboards.
