After several rumors, leaks, and teases, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is finally official, and it is easily the best camera smartphone that is available in the market, thanks to several of its groundbreaking additions. For starters, OPPO has decided to go with a dual periscope camera to ensure that the pictures taken from the zoom lens are as good as they possibly can be. In addition to that, the phone uses the 1-inch Sony LYT-900 as the primary sensor and the Sony LYT-600 as the ultra-wide sensor. The resolution on both wide and ultra-wide cameras is 50-megapixel.
The OPPO Find X7 Ultra might as well be the best phone that has been released this year, but you won't be able to buy it
Coming back, it is worth noting that the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is the first phone with dual periscope sensors. Both are 50-megapixel sensors, with one sensor offering 3x zoom and the other offering 6x zoom. OPPO has also talked about how the 6x zoom can actually go as far as 12x thanks to image processing. In addition to that, OPPO also talked about Hypertyone Imagine Engine, which will help with several issues that most cameras run into. While we cannot talk much about how it will work, we will have to wait and see if it actually delivers the promise. The one thing that I love the most is that the phone will allow you to take up to 50-megapixel RAW photos, which will make this a definitive choice for many photographers.
The rest of the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is not a slouch, either. You are getting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, up to 16 gigs of RAM, as well as 1TB of storage. The phone will also ship with a dedicated security chip that should improve many of its security-related features. Powering the device is a 5,000 mAh battery with 100W SuperVOOC wired and 50W wireless charging. There is also an IR blaster and VIP slider, which acts as an alert slider but also allows you to change different aspects of the phone.
Sadly, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra will not be launched outside China, but if you are in China, you can get your hands on the device. The available storage options are plenty, and the phone does not really cost a lot of money.
- 12GB/256GB: CNY 3,999 (~$563)
- 16GB/256GB: CNY 4,299 (~$605)
- 16GB/512GB: CNY 4,599 (~$647)
- 16GB/1TB: CNY 4,999 (~$704)
As a photographer and a smartphone enthusiast who really wants other companies to step up, I wish there was an international market for the OPPO Find X7 Ultra. The phone is exactly what would push other companies to stop being lazy and actually work on improving the camera on a hardware level.
