Once again, the report confirms that NVIDIA is prioritizing 8 GB cards, and the higher-end GPUs will make up for a small percentage of the supply.
NVIDIA RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB, and RTX 5070 12 GB Expected to Account for 75% of Total Shipments This Quarter
A new report from Board Channels just confirmed the new supply strategy by NVIDIA. The company has been working on a new strategy for its GeForce RTX 50 series supply as the VRAM becomes more expensive. From previous reports, we know that NVIDIA has been prioritizing the 8 GB editions, while the supply for those with higher memory capacities will be reduced. Board Channels confirmed it, and it appears that the company will prioritize three GPUs from the RTX 50 stack.
These are the GeForce RTX 5060 8 GB, RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB, and RTX 5070 12 GB. It's well-known from earlier reports that the 8 GB GPUs won't face a similar supply constraint as the 16 GB editions, but there was uncertainty regarding the supply for the RTX 5070. Since the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti has started to become scarce in most regions, NVIDIA has nothing except the RTX 5070 as the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB has also grown in price by nearly 2X.
The RTX 5070 comes with 4 GB lower VRAM capacity, and also helps NVIDIA to compete against AMD's lower and upper mid-range options like the RX 9060 XT 16 GB and the RX 9070 XT. While the RTX 5070 isn't a direct competitor to those, the company has no choice but to maintain a decent supply of the GPU in order to fill the gap between the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB and the RTX 5080. All in all, these three cards (RTX 5060, 5060 Ti 8 GB, and RTX 5070) are expected to account for nearly 75% of the total GPU shipments this quarter.
The rest 25% will comprise the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB, RTX 5080 16 GB, and the RTX 5090. In a nutshell, despite having a wider range of SKUs than AMD, NVIDIA won't be able to fulfill the demands of everyone. On the other hand, AMD has reportedly prioritized the RX 9060 XT 16 GB and RX 9070 XT cards due to better appeal. The RX 9060 XT 16 GB still enjoys good availability and decent pricing, but the RX 9070 XT has gotten a lot more expensive in recent days.
