It seems that the rumor mill surrounding the OnePlus 13 has started. Yesterday, we heard about how the phone will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which will be the first for a OnePlus device. Based on the information that we have today, it appears that the phone is set to get more changes than just that.

OnePlus 13 could go through another dramatic design change

Digital Chat Station, a reliable tipster, claims that the OnePlus 13 will not be using a "family-style hinge." This is of course machine-translated, so we cannot say much, but it could mean that the phone could finally get rid of the curved panel that is on the left of the camera island. We saw it first on the OnePlus 10 Pro. It then evolved in terms of the design on the OnePlus 11 and is still available on the OnePlus 12. Some Weibo users have even taken the liberty of calling the current camera island "toilet seat," and upon close inspection, you can imagine why they are doing it.

The source also claims that the current OnePlus 13 prototype offers a large 2K screen. The device will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, a 50-megapixel primary camera with a periscope camera, as well. The phone should have IP certification as well, a bigger battery compared to last year, and, of course, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor based on what we heard yesterday.

Although I am excited to see that the OnePlus 13 will get a design change, I am not sure how this will work. We have been under the impression that the company finally found a design language and was going to stick to it, but if the latest tip is anything to go by, that might not be the case. This could negatively impact the company and result in unhappy fans. I do hope that whatever design change the company is planning on making is a minor one and not substantial, or the device will lose its identity once again.
