One More Level, the studio behind the first-person melee/platforming action Ghostrunner games, is ditching the neon-colored futuristic aesthetics of its previous series and moving on to a fantastical version of 19th-century Europe with its next upcoming title, Valor Mortis.

Announced and showcased at Gamescom 2025, One More Level describes Valor Mortis as a "first-person action Soulslike," and if that sounds like something you'd want to try, well then you'll have the chance to try it within the next few weeks.

One More Level and Valor Mortis' publisher, Lyrical Games, announced that there will be a playtest hosted for the game running from October 6 to 13 that you can sign up for through your Steam or Discord account.

The playtest will feature the introductory chapter of the game which also includes a boss fight and the first section of the upgrade tree that players will work through in the game. While the game is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, this playtest will only be available on PC.

When Wccftech's Francesco De Meo got to check out Valor Mortis at Gamescom 2025, he called it "one of the show's best," and that it is a "breath of fresh air" in today's oversaturated Soulslike genre.

"In a market becoming a little saturated with average soulslike that fail to capture what makes this sort of game so compelling, Valor Mortis feels like a breath of fresh air, as One More Level has shown, with this demo, to understand what a proper soulslike should feature. As such, the game was easily one of the best I had the pleasure of trying during this year's Gamescom, and one I really cannot wait to get my hands on the final game."
