Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max launches currently don’t have a concrete release timeline, with the company expected to unveil these two chipsets, along with the M5 Ultra, during the first half of 2026. However, the culmination of all of the previous portable Mac releases, their design choices, and more, has led to a point where we will bear witness to Apple’s OLED M6 MacBook Pro announcement in the second half of the year. Ever since the company’s transition to its in-house silicon, based on the latest report, it will only be the second time that the technology giant has announced two lineups in a calendar year.

The last time Apple announced two Mac families along with their chipsets was back in 2023, when the company unveiled the M2 Pro and M2 Max, followed by their immediate successors, the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, in October. Now, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in the latest addition of his ‘Power On’ newsletter, he states that the M6 MacBook Pro series "should be hitting toward the end of 2026." Samsung, the exclusive supplier of the OLED that will be found in the newer models, has reportedly commenced mass production of these panels ahead of schedule, suggesting that the launch may transpire a little earlier thanks to this step.
In addition to the OLED upgrade, Apple has been reported to drop the notch and replace it with a Dynamic Island, along with touchscreen support. Unfortunately, as you might have figured out already, the base M6 MacBook Pro will neither be treated to the OLED nor a redesign, and based on leaked identifier code, only the M6 Pro and M6 Max versions will arrive with those upgrades. One addition that we’re looking forward to is the presence of a 5G modem that will enable cellular connectivity on these portable Macs, marking the first time that users will consistently remain on the go with these models.
We cannot predict whether Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro sales will suffer because potential buyers will only have to wait several months for the arrival of the M6 MacBook Pro series. Perhaps this is the reason why the company is rumored to charge a premium for the OLED versions, but then again, the aforementioned upgrades will also demand a price bump.
