The axial fans found on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition cards are being modded into chassis and CPU coolers due to the airflow potential they offer.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics cards make use of the latest generation of high-airflow Axial fans which deliver exceptional cooling performance. These fans run quietly and are known for their high airflow that is achieved within the dual flow-through design found on the cards.
Chiphell Forum member, lin88747, showcased his PC which features one of these fans modded to a top-down heatsink. Since this is an SFF Mini-ITX chassis, he had limited room to work with but the fan was easy to equip with a DIY frame. It is reported that with the NVIDIA RTX 4090 FE fan, the CPU saw temps drop down to 8-9C versus the ThermalrightTL-C12 & 4-5C lower versus the CM Mobius 120P.
At full load, the heatsink was able to cool the Core i5-13600KF very efficiently and produced lower noise however it is reported that there was a humming noise at low RPM operation which is quite noticeable.
It looks like other users with similarly modded NVIDIA Founders Edition fans were quick to respond and state that with a proper frame, you can not only concentrate more airflow toward a heatsink but also reduce the noise output. User, mkkkno1, shows off several "Deluxe" variants of DIY Fans made by him and his friends that are attached to AIO coolers.
The mounting frame is custom and has been 3D-printed to support the NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition fan. The fame comes with a standard 4-pin connector which makes it easy to install on any motherboard. It is reported that the price of these custom DIY mods can be slightly higher than the standard 120mm fan options that are available on the market but it is a fun thing to do and can actually help cases with limited room, allowing for more airflow.
