Huawei has made it a mission to impress us with some of the best smartphones in the market. Even though they cannot be purchased in most international markets, these devices are still more than capable of showing everything the company can do. Today, we have the new Huawei Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra.

The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra and Pro variants show how the company has still got it

Let's start with the Nova 12 Ultra. You are getting a 6.76-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2,776x1,224 pixels. The display is color-accurate and offers protection using Kunlun Glass. Huawei has decided to take a page out of Apple's book in terms of visual queues, as the front has two cameras that look like the Dynamic Island. The first camera is a 60-megapixel unit with 100-degree FOV and autofocus, whereas the second camera is an 8-megapixel unit with 2x optical zoom for portraits.

On the back of the Huawei Nova 12 Ultra, you get a faux leather panel with 3D embossing. The star of the show on the back is the new camera system. The phone uses a 50-megapixel primary camera with a physical variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0. The sensor also has an RYYB color filter array, and there is also an ultra-wide camera with a 112-degree field of view.

The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra runs HarmonyOS 4, comes with up to 1TB of storage device, and is possibly sporting the Kirin 9000S chipset under the hood. The phone also has satellite calling and messaging; this is done by a two-way Beido satellite messaging system, and the phone actually has a somewhat small 4,600 mAh battery that can be charged with a charger up to 100W.

As far as the Huawei Nova 12 Pro is concerned - this is just an Ultra variant with some limitations. For starters, you are not getting any faux leather back and lower base storage; plus, there is no 1TB option, either.

The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra ships in 512GB and 1TB storage options, priced at CNY4,699 ($660) and CNY5,499 ($770), respectively. The Nova 12 Pro ships in 256GB and 512GB storage priced at CNY3,999 ($560) and CNY4,399 ($615), respectively. The phones are now up for preorder and will be going on sale starting January 5, with the Ultra variant hitting the shelves on January 12, 2024.
