The Nintendo Switch appears to be selling better than both the PS4 and Xbox One did last year.
At least, that’s what can be discerned from a new chart published by Statista following Nintendo’s most recent Switch sales data in which the company revealed that its latest platform has claimed two-thirds of September 2017’s console U.S. hardware sales.
"In September, the Nintendo Switch system was once again the top-selling current-generation console hardware, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States", the press release reads. "This marks the third straight month that Nintendo Switch has been No. 1, and the fifth time overall in the seven months since its launch. Nintendo Switch has already surpassed 2 million units sold in the U.S. alone, and has yet to go through its first holiday shopping season."
The charts compares the U.S. Nintendo Switch sales in 2017 to the best-selling platform in 2016, and interestingly, the Switch has been selling better than its main competitors did last year. So far, the Switch was only beaten this August when it sold less units than Microsoft’s Xbox One did in August 2016 when the Xbox One S was released - The Xbox One became the best-selling console in the U.S. for that month.
Granted, this data only applies to the U.S. and both the PS4 and Xbox One have been on the market for several years, but it’s still an impressive feat from Nintendo considering the release of the Xbox One S and Sony's PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro.
