The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct covered many things, from game announcements to hardware features, but it did not cover prices. That was probably intentional, as the console pricing shared via press release as soon as the Direct ended was a bit higher than expected: $449.99, or $499.99 with the Mario Kart World bundle. In Europe, pricing is even higher, with the base console costing €469.99 or €509.99 with the new Mario Kart game.

What's even more appalling are the game prices, though. European stores on Nintendo's website reveal that they can go up to €90 for Mario Kart World, as spotted by ResetEra user Xanfrabot, while Donkey Kong Bananza goes up to €80. In both cases, the physical editions are €10 more expensive than the digital ones.

Now, granted, game prices have been on the rise lately, even on consoles and PC. However, in most cases, publishers were able to push them up with the promise of including DLCs, expansions, and various bonuses. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will do the same for the pricier Nintendo Switch 2 games.

The console will be available for pre-order starting on April 9. Stay tuned on Wccftech to read our own first impressions with the system, as we've got a reporter at the ongoing press event ready to spill the beans.
