Apple Studio Display is up for a huge upgrade come 2026, replete with the Cupertino giant's latest SoC, as per the tidbit gleaned from a pre-release iOS 26 build.

Code snippets within a pre-release iOS 26 build suggest the Apple Studio Display is up for a huge upgrade come 2026

Macworld has gleaned via the code snippets contained within a pre-release iOS 26 build that Apple is working on a new external display, identified by the codename "J527." Interestingly, this is the same codename that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had previously identified as belonging to an upcoming Apple Studio Display variant.

Code snippets show that the new Apple Studio Display will have ProMotion-like variable refresh rate that can go all the way up to 120Hz. Do note that the current model is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.

The display will also be able to support both SDR and HDR modes. This suggests that Apple will replace the Studio Display's LCD panel with next-gen tech, possibly Mini-LED.

Finally, the upcoming Apple Studio Display is now expected to be powered by the A19 chip. Do note that the current variant is equipped with an A13 Bionic chip.

Of course, Gurman has also referenced another upcoming Apple Studio model, delineated by its internal codename "J427." Details on this variant, however, are scarce at the moment.

We reported earlier today that Apple is likely to ship two versions of the iPad 12 in 2026, sporting the codenames J581 and J588, respectively. Again, both of these versions are expected to be powered by the A19 chip.

According to Gurman, Apple is planning on launching over 15 new products in 2026, with the first half of the year likely to see the launch of:

  1. iPhone 17e
  2. 12th-gen iPad with A19 chip
  3. M4 iPad Air
  4. M5 MacBook Air
  5. M5 Pro MacBook Pro
  6. M5 Max MacBook Pro
  7. New external displays

Then, between March and April, Apple will launch its revamped Siri voice assistant under the banner of Apple Intelligence. In the fall, Apple is likely to launch the iPhone Fold as well as the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, along with new variants of the Apple Watch.

Other possible product launches in 2026:

  1. Smart home security cameras
  2. M5 Mac mini
  3. The new Mac Studio
  4. iPad mini with OLED display (OLED iPad Pro is expected to launch in 2027)
  5. M6 Pro MacBook Pro with an OLED touch screen
  6. M6 Max MacBook Pro with an OLED touch screen
  7. AI-powered smart glasses
