Netflix sued for poor streaming quality of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight is just the start of the live-streaming sports events that Netflix intends to undertake to deliver content to millions. However, before that happens, the company needs to address one major problem that has sprouted due to its poor streaming quality of the boxing match. According to the latest report, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Netflix over buffering troubles, which ruined the experience for those not present in attendance.

A person named Ronald ‘Blue’ Denton filed the class-action lawsuit against Netflix; says the fight was plagued with ‘legendary’ problems

An innumerable number of people complained last Friday night that the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was riddled with streaming issues such as nonstop buffering, with the problem seemingly materialized well before the final fight on the card. The streaming quality has placed Netflix in hot waters because TMZ Sports reports that a person named Ronald ‘Blue’ Denton had filed a lawsuit on Monday. Denton claims that his viewing experience was plagued by ‘legendary problems, including no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues.’

Denton is also suing Netflix for breach of contract, and he is asking for unspecified damages. Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone acknowledged that improvements need to be made regarding livestream events, but she still says that the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was a ‘huge success.’ Around 60 million people tuned in to watch the boxing match, and we can only imagine their frustration over the streaming issues reported.

Stone informed Men’s Journal below that streaming the boxing match presented several technical challenges, but the team tackled this issue by prioritizing stability. She also says that she is not ignoring the poor quality experienced by some members, but the company will make improvements from hereon. Interestingly, the Netflix executive did not comment on the latest class-action lawsuit.

“This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers. I’m sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues. We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members, and know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success.”

As mentioned before, the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was just the start of a multitude of sporting events that Netflix will livestream, with the NFL games on Christmas Day being its next goal. However, it needs to tackle the current lawsuit that it will eventually face, but this incident should encourage it to improve its streaming quality.
