Newly released AGESA BIOS reportedly brought compatibility problems for the MSI X870E motherboards.

MSI Quietly Releases AGESA BIOS v1.2.8.0 for "Improved" Memory Compatibility; Causes Problems Instead

Some vendors started rolling out AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0 recently, which reportedly adds support for the upcoming Krackan Point and Strix Point APUs to the AM5 platform. MSI and ASUS were the first ones to roll out this particular version on some of its models, but MSI has just released a newer AGESA BIOS "1.2.8.0" on some of 800-series motherboards, including both X870E and B850 chipset models.

Currently, the community-maintained AGESA BIOS sheet lists that the AGESA 1.2.8.0 is available for only three models, including MPG X870E Edge Ti WiFi, MPG X870E Carbon WiFi, and MAG B850M Mortar. We can currently see the new BIOS available on the product pages of all these models and as per the release notes, it "improves" the memory compatibility. Nothing else is stated, but some users tried to install it on their models, only to met with severe failure.

While it's unknown how many users have installed the latest BIOS on their motherboards, one user on Chiphell reported that after installing it on his X870E Carbon WiFi, he couldn't get the BIOS screen, let alone enter his OS. He states that his system keeps crashing, which indicates a serious stability concern with the new BIOS. Hopefully he rolled back to the previous BIOS version, but if you own any of these three motherboards, we recommend not to upgrade right now.

It's best to wait for a couple of weeks before upgrading to a newer BIOS as such issues are quite common these days. Even the previous AGESA 1.2.7.0 is said to have some issues, which is why the ASUS BIOS the original BIOS 1804 has been reportedly taken down by ASUS on some of its models and was replaced by a newer BIOS version 1805 (same AGESA 1.2.7.0). There is another AGESA BIOS version, "1.2.7.1" as per the AGESA BIOS sheet, but we haven't heard of it before. It's currently available on ASRock X870/X870E motherboards, but it's in Beta state.

ASRock has apparently skipped the AGESA 1.2.7.0 as well and has jumped straight from 1.2.03 to 1.2.8.0, which suggests there might be an issue with the version 1.2.7.0. It's best to avoid both new BIOS versions if you have an 800-series AM5 motherboard until they are completely stable.
