NVIDIA released their GeForce GTX 1070 yesterday and was met with high review scores and low stock count as it sold out in many places within minutes of launch. But for the many of you who are waiting for the custom AIB cards to hit the market we wanted to bring you the fill line-up of MSI’s new GTX 1070 offerings and let you decide if the founders edition is right for you, or is holding out a little longer going to be more your speed.
Gaming X:
MSI’s new TWIN FROZR VI features the new TORX Fan 2.0 Double Ball Bearing fans they claim to generate 22% more air pressure than their previous design while still reducing noise levels. Under the fans is the massive heatsink with 8mm copper heatpipes connected to the GPU die with what MSI are claiming to be a “premium thermal compound X” to help keep things cooler than normal. The power deliver has been beefed up with the addition of a 6pin PCI-e connector bringing a 6+8pin design.

SEA HAWK X
The MSI GeForce GTX 1070 SEA HAWK X is what happens when MSI and CORSAIR have lunch together. It combines MSI’s AERO OC card with a CORSAIR Hydro Series liquid cooler to provide one of the coolest running GTX 1070s on the market. I have to say I was a bit surprised to see they were bringing the SEA HAWK branding to a non flagship card.

ARMOR
The ARMOR series of MSI graphics cards continues its fashion of Black and White like they have in the past. Matching up well with their Krait series of motherboards the ARMOR is aimed for the no frills gamer as it retains the fans from the TWIN FROZR VI with its new TORX fan design as well as the 0db idle fan profile. Unlike the TWIN FROZR VI variant the ARMOR retains the founders inspired single 8pin PCI-e power adapter.

AERO
There’s not a whole lot to really go on about with the AERO model from MSI as it’s basically the Founders Edition but with a lower cost shroud. This card is representative of that lower than FE cost GPU while retaining the ability to be put under a waterblock. So those for either a less expensive version of the FE or something to put an aftermarket waterblock on, this might be the model for you.

VR Ready and Gaming App
MSI is also readying their new VR Boost Kit which will be an additional accessory for your unused 5.25” drive bay. This accessory allows for easy connectivity of VR Headsets by having an HDMI and two additional USB 3.0 ports easily accessible on the front of your case.
The new MSI Gaming App is what you’ll want to use to quickly switch between fan profiles and overclock profiles on your MSI Graphics Card as well as controlling the LEDs on the new GTX 1070/1080 line-up.
