MSI's mind-blowing and upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z OCER GPU has been pictured & tested in its first overclocking benchmark.
MSI Is Making A Thunderous Return To The OC GPU Segment With Its GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z OCER Graphics Card
A few days ago, we reported that MSI has posted a teaser for its upcoming GeForce RTX Lightning graphics card, which would be officially unveiled at CES 2026. Well, it looks like Overclocking.com has managed to obtain the first pictures of this mighty graphics card, and its best part, too, the PCB.
The outlet has posted images of what seems to be the PCB of the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z graphics card, and this particular model has the "OCER" designation, which might indicate a specialized variant for hardcore overclockers.
The PCB is a sight to behold with several yellow patterns on the MOSFETs, and an impressive power layout which includes 40 VRMs plus an additional four around the power connectors. The PCB uses dual 16-pin connectors, and there are also several tiny copper heatsinks, which seem like a custom job rather than an official feature.
The massive GB202 GPU used by the RTX 5090 is at the center with electrotaping, and the 16 VRAM dies are also in their respective places. There are certain ports at the back of the PCB. The backside of the PCB also has those "Lightning" logos and yellow patterns, which indicate that the cooler itself will make use of the iconic Yellow/Black theme.
Overall, the design of this PCB looks very strong, and as per the first overclocking figures, MSI has really built a beast. On LN2, the GPU was overclocked to hit a maximum clock speed of 3457 MHz on the core and an impressive 36 Gbps for the GDDR7 memory.
With this overclock, user "Dr.Antoine" reached the top spot in 3DMark Time Spy with a score of 53,207 points, beating the previous record scores held by ASUS and GALAX. So it looks like serious overclocking is back on the menu for GPU enthusiasts, and MSI is going to shake things up in a big way with its RTX 5090 Lightning Z graphics card.
Well, this is just the start, and we can expect even more record-breaking numbers once the card reaches more overclockers.
