MSI's GeForce RTX 50 Lightning GPUs Teased As Flagship "Lightning" Series Returns To Shake Up The OC Segment

Last year, MSI showcased its top GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning graphics card, but a year has gone by, and we still haven't gotten any update. Well, that is until now, as MSI has now posted the first teaser of its next-gen Lightning graphics card.

The teaser comes in the form of an MSI Weather Forecast, which changes to thunderous lightning on the 5th of January. This is the same date when MSI will be hosting a media event to showcase its next-gen PC lineup, including graphics cards. We can't think of any other MSI product associated with this besides the legendary "Lightning" series.

As for what to expect from the MSI GeForce RTX Lightning graphics card, it is likely that this is going to be featured on the flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, as the company highlighted earlier. MSI gave us an early look at two "Special Edition" designs, which are essentially the "Lightning" models.

One of these is an air-cooled model with five Stormforce fans, offering extreme cooling capabilities in a triple-slot design, while the other is a liquid-cooled model with four fans and the MSI HydroCool system, which is an AIO design comprised of dual 120mm radiators and an advanced dual airflow channeling system. MSI hasn't gotten into a lot of details of these two products, but the developer of MSI Afterburner OC software stated that he has received samples of certain "OC" GPUs with unlocked extended voltage control and further tuning capabilities.

So it looks like MSI is indeed cooking and will relaunch its "Lightning" series for another high-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. The lineup hasn't seen an update since the RTX 2080 Ti Lightning OC back in 2019.
