MSI Announces Compensation For Damaged PC Hardware Under Its New PSU Warranty Program

Apart from covering the PSU under the warranty period, MSI will now cover affected hardware as well.

MSI China to Provide Either Hardware Replacement or Compensation if Any Component Gets Damaged as a Result of MSI PSUs

Unlike how you usually have to apply for an RMA for your faulty PC hardware, MSI is now changing its PSU warranty coverage to ensure its customers can get fair compensation. Typically, you will get a new power supply unit as a replacement under warranty if it starts to malfunction or gets damaged (depends on manufacturer's policy), but you won't be getting any replacements for other parts.

MSI China, on the other hand, has revised its warranty policy and will not only cover the affected PSU but also any other PC component which gets affected/damaged as a result of the PSU. Today, MSI announced on Bilibili that they will ensure fair compensation to users if they own an MSI Gold, Platinum or Titanium power supply. Essentially, if any of the PC parts are found to be affected due to MSI's PSUs, MSI has five different plans for compensating the users.

  1. MSI component replacement with the same one
  2. PC hardware replacement withthe same one (if component exists on the market)
  3. 100% compensation if the PSU is within the first year of warranty
  4. 90% compensation if the purchase was conducted between the 2nd and 3rd year
  5. 75% compensation from the 4th year up to the warranty period.

MSI will team up with a third-party repair unit in order to conduct an investigation to find out if the damaged PC part comes as a result of a faulty MSI power supply unit. If they find this to be true, then either of the five conditions will apply. This basically covers most PC parts under warranty, which is even better than what you would receive with most pre-built gaming PCs. Considering there are cases of damaged components as a result of faulty PSUs, users with MSI Gold units and above can have peace of mind with their systems.

Unfortunately, this policy won't apply worldwide and will be limited to China. It appears that MSI has great confidence in its premium power supply units and is willing to take an extra step in winning the trust of its customers. MSI's 80 Plus Gold units and above generally come with 10 years of warranty and the new plan basically covers other hardware for a decade (considering the culprit is PSU).
