One of the biggest surprises featured at The Game Awards 2023 was undoubtedly Marvel's Blade. There were rumors about Arkane Lyon announcing their next game at the event, but all bets were on the next Dishonored installment because of a previously leaked Bethesda schedule that listed Dishonored 3 as an upcoming project.

However, it turns out that the French developer also known for Deathloop is actually making a licensed Marvel game based on the character Blade, a dhampir known as the Daywalker.

Bill Rosemann, VP and Creative Director of Marvel Games, stated:

In honor of Blade’s 50th anniversary, we have found the perfect match for the Daywalker in Arkane Lyon, a studio of uncompromising artists who continually push the boundaries of game design and innovation. In addition to their award-winning talent, it’s their personal passion and bold vision for our half-human, half-vampire iconoclast that makes this collaboration a perfect fit.

Dinga Bakaba, Game Director at Arkane Lyon, added:

As a kid of mixed origins, I felt a special connection to Blade – a hero with a dual heritage himself. The opportunity to put our spin on this character is a dream of mine and a challenge that our team embraces with a passion. We couldn’t be happier to put players in Blade’s boots, as he becomes the champion of my hometown of Paris, one stake at a time.

The response to the announcement was great, and Arkane rewarded fans with a trio of gorgeous official concept art images shared on Twitter by Co-Creative Director and Art Director Sébastien Mitton. You can check them out in the gallery below.

Marvel's Blade is believed to have entered development in early 2022, so a release is probably a few years out. Meanwhile, Arkane Lyon is hiring for the following roles: Assistant Technical Director, Graphics Programmer, Level Artist, Lighting Artist, Producer, Senior Animator, Senior Technical Artist, Senior Tools Programmer, Technical Artist, and Senior Character Artist.
