Given the amount of time that Apple spends on perfecting each of its software updates, it is rare for one to cause a widespread glitch. Yet, this is exactly what appears to be happening with some users who've installed macOS Tahoe, the latest OS for Apple's Mac-based ecosystem.
Some macOS Tahoe users are now reporting flickering of their screens, which might happen at random, but especially when switching between apps with a "stark white" background
As per anecdotal evidence, macOS Tahoe causes some devices to flicker randomly. The issue reportedly plagues Apple's MacBooks as well as the Studio Display.
Interestingly, the issue appears most frequently when users switch between apps that bear a stark white background or scroll on a webpage with a white background, as per a commentary by MacRumors.
For some users, the issue has been an irritant since Apple officially launched the macOS Tahoe update back in September, which suggests the presence of a bug within the update's code itself.
Sometimes, the bug manifests itself in the form of a brief flicker. At other times, it does so via a sequence of flickers that continue for a few seconds, forcing users to halt their workflow.
There is some evidence that switching off the Night Shift function for the display fixes the error. However, given the sheer diversity of Mac devices currently experiencing this problem, a definitive determination of the root cause of the error can only come from Apple itself.
In any case, Apple will, in all likelihood, fix this nagging problem via a dedicated software patch. If you are among the unlucky ones experiencing this issue, stay tuned to know when the patch starts rolling out.
