MachineGames might've made a major shift in protagonists when it went from BJ Blazkowicz to Indiana Jones, but it remained fairly in the 'fighting and killing Nazis' genre, and if studio head Jerk Gustafsson is to be believed, the studio is planning on staying there, as Gustafsson recently revealed there are plans for another Wolfenstein game in place, and that the studio has "a story to tell."
The comments come from Gustafsson in the most recent NoClip documentary, The Making of Wolfenstein (spotted by PC Gamer). He admits that MachineGames had, from the beginning, plans to make BJ Blazkowicz's story a trilogy.
"We have always seen this as a trilogy. That journey for BJ, even during those first weeks at id, when we mapped out New Order, we still had the plan for at least [BJ], what would happen in the second one and what would happen in the third one. I think that's important to say, because—at least I hope—we're not done with Wolfenstein yet. We have a story to tell."
The most recent major Wolfenstein game was Youngblood, which was released in 2019 and starred Blazkowicz's daughters. Since then, the studio's focus has been fixed on Indiana Jones, but fans of MachineGames' take on one of the oldest shooters in videogame history would be more than happy to see Blazkowicz return.
Beyond another Blazkowicz game, there's also a TV series adaptation of Wolfenstein in the works from a collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and MachineGames. There were rumors of a project at MachineGames being cancelled, but at least we can put to bed any concerns that it was MachineGames dropping the idea of making a third BJ Blazkowicz story.
