Samsung has started mass production of the OLED expected to be used in the M6 MacBook Pro

Apple will finally introduce a significant redesign to its M6 MacBook Pro, with the company bidding farewell to mini-LED and bringing OLED technology in its place. With Samsung having years of experience under its belt in manufacturing these particular panels, the firm has reportedly started production of these displays sooner than expected, hinting that the revamped portable Mac family could arrive much earlier. Unfortunately, assuming the majority of readers are unaware, only the M6 Pro and M6 Max configurations are expected to ship with the OLED panel and other upgrades.

Samsung was previously expected to commence OLED production of the M6 MacBook Pro in Q2 2026; starting much earlier than the intended schedule could suggest a launch in the third quarter

Looking at Apple’s previous MacBook launches, the M6 MacBook Pro would likely be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the possibility that the higher-end M6 Pro and M6 Max configurations arrive in early 2027. However, based on the information shared by yeux1122’s blog, Samsung has announced that the 8.6-generation OLED found in the redesigned machines will enter production this quarter.

Like the M5 iPad Pro series, the M6 MacBook Pro family is expected to be outfitted with tandem OLED, which is the best variation of these displays, housing two light-emitting layers, boosting overall brightness, efficiency, color, and lifespan. As for why Samsung would commence production this early, it is possible that Apple wishes to evaluate the initial samples and see if the first shipment will be market-ready.

Given that the 14-inch and 16-inch M6 MacBook Pro will likely be in higher demand due to a multitude of upgrades, including touchscreen support and the removal of the notch, the OLED will be a pivotal part of the entire hardware. Samsung may also want to begin manufacturing ahead of schedule as a means to impress Apple and secure future orders for successive notebooks, not to mention attract a bevy of customers who wish to gravitate toward OLED technology for their upcoming machines.

LG and BOE are potential supply chain partners for Apple for future OLED MacBook releases, including the ‘Air,’ so Samsung may want an upper hand in this regard. Whatever the Korean giant’s intentions are, we certainly hope that moving production into overdrive means that we’ll get to see the M6 MacBook Pro earlier.
