It’s a mistake to assume that every component belonging to a MacBook Pro would be made out of the same robust unibody aluminum as the portable Mac’s chassis, but some owners need to learn the hard way. On the latest occasion, one intrepid individual decided to give his expensive M5 Pro machine a nice makeover by applying a dbrand skin. The only problem was that, in the person’s infinite wisdom, a hair dryer was used to keep that skin in place, resulting in the arrow keys completely warping.
The M5 Pro MacBook Pro owner’s best bet would be to secure replacement keys from Apple’s online store or AliExpress
A metal like aluminum is designed to effectively absorb and dissipate heat, which is Apple’s material of choice when using it in the latest iPhones and, of course, its high-end MacBook Pro series. However, the scissor-switch keys on these premium machines continue to be made of plastic and will likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future, which is why it’s not a great idea to bring any kind of head source towards them.
Sadly, a Reddit user going by the handle “NAVPRO360” didn’t realize that until he inflicted irreparable damage to his expensive M5 Pro MacBook Pro. Keep in mind that, even when discounted by $200 on online retailers like Amazon, the base configuration will still set you back by $1,999, so it’s probably a good idea to keep this hardware free from nasty experiments. In the owner’s defense, he likely wanted to give his pricey purchase a decent amount of protection from car keys and other sharp objects by applying a dbrand skin.
Unfortunately, he didn’t do a particularly excellent job in applying the skin, leaving creases on the wrist rest area. Trusting his instinct, he grabbed a hair dryer and the rest is history. Now that the damage is done, what are the M5 Pro MacBook Pro owner’s options? According to some replies, Apple sells replacement keys on its online store, but it’s also a good idea to check places like AliExpress, as you can procure parts for a lot cheaper there. Luckily for NAVPRO360, he purchased AppleCare+ coverage, but it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be charged for this misadventure.
