Apple's M4 MacBook Air will feature the same performance as the M4 iPad Pro

Apple is expected to announce the M4 MacBook Air in the coming weeks as its stock in Apple Stores around the world is dwindling, hinting that the new model is right around the corner. We already know that the next iteration of the MacBook Air will come with an M4 chip, and according to the latest benchmarks, it is presumed that the machine will feature the same graphical performance as the M4 iPad Pro models.

Apple's forthcoming M4 MacBook Air will feature the same GPU performance as the M4 iPad Pro

GPU benchmarks of Apple's M4 MacBook Air have appeared on Geekbench, highlighting the performance of the machine and how it will compete against the current and the 'Pro' models. The M4 chip will utilize TSMC's 3nm architecture, which is the same as the M3 version, but the performance is better along with efficiency. The Geekbench 6 results for the unreleased "Mac16,12" were discovered on February 23, which show a 10-core chip coupled with 24GB of RAM.

It can also be seen that the model is running a special 24C2101 build for macOS Sequoia 15.2, which is the same version that was previously leaked by Apple itself. The benchmarks of the M4 MacBook Air show a recorded Metal score of 55,516, which is on par with the M4 chip on the iPad Pro. In comparison to the current MacBook Air, the Metal score for the M3 chip is approximately 49,000.

The M4 chip will deliver the same performance on the MacBook Air as the OLED iPad Pro. We can also observe that the GPU performance figures are lower than those of the M4 MacBook Pro, and there is a very good reason for this difference. Both the MacBook Air lineup and the iPad Pro models lack a proper thermal management solution, which drops the chip's performance. In comparison, the M4 MacBook Pro's GPU scores an average of 57,000 on the same benchmark.

In terms of design, the M4 MacBook Air is expected to feature the same look as the current models. The company could make slight adjustments to the display and the port situation, but we have not heard any concrete details on the matter, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt.
