Apple is expected to announce the M4 versions of its MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac later this month, and while the design of most of the products will remain the same, the company will highlight the performance of the new chip. Other than these devices, the company also has plans to announce the new M4 MacBook Air and Mac Studio next year with different versions of the M4 chip. The company is now expected to soon start production of the M4 MacBook Air, but the M4 Mac Studio has been potentially delayed.
Apple's M4 Mac Studio has been delayed, but M4 MacBook Air production will begin soon for a Spring launch
The MacBook Air was redesigned only two generations ago, and we suspect that there will be no changes on the outside. However, the devices will be upgraded with the new M4 chip, which will open the device to dedicated Apple Intelligence features. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will soon begin mass production of the M4 MacBook Air models, which are slated to launch in the first half of next year, possibly in the Spring.
Apple plans to introduce the new M4 chip to its entire Mac lineup, but the transition will be gradual rather than sudden. The first transition would take place on Monday with the launch of the MacBook Pro, the redesigned Mac mini, and the 24-inch iMac. Next year, possibly in the Spring, the company will announce the new M4 MacBook Air models. This leaves the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro for later next year.
Gurman also claims that the M4 Mac Studio has been delayed to launch after the MacBook Air. The device was initially presumed to launch alongside the MacBook Air, but it has been slightly pushed ahead and is now expected to launch between March and June time frame. We can safely presume that the company will announce the M4 Max and M4 Ultra variants of the Mac at its WWDC event in June.
Other than this, the Mac Pro with an M4 chip is in development as well, and it could launch in the latter half of 2025. Alongside the new M4 MacBook Air, Apple is expected to release the new iPhone SE 4, new iPad Air models with faster internals, and the entry-level iPad. All devices will be equipped with hardware capable of handling Apple Intelligence features.
