AltStore Classic released for iPhone, allowing users in EU to play Nintendo Switch games

Last year, the EU forced Apple to open iOS for developers to use for third-party apps and app stores in compliance with the DMA changes. It has been months since then, and the developers have been consistently working to offer third-party resources to developers and the general public. AltStore PAL has now announced the release of the new AltStore Classic for users, which will allow them to play Nintendo Switch games, but it is only available in the EU for now.

AltStore Classic now allows iPhone users in the EU to install emulators and JIT apps without needing a Mac or PC

AltStore Classic will allow a plethora of non-notarized apps, including the ones that require JIT compilation, to be installed on the iPhone without any hiccups. AltStore is celebrating the first anniversary of its AltStore PAL, and the team behind it is now expanding the reach and compatibility of the platform with additional previously inaccessible repositories.

Essentially, the Classic is the same version of the AltStore that users have been able to download since 2019, but now it has the option to run hefty emulators on the iPhone, which includes the Dolphin emulator for Wii and GameCube games, and the meloNX emulator for Switch games. Basically, you are running an alternative app store inside another one, which might sound strange, but it is very doable.

The new version of AltStore Classic also offers several benefits for EU users. For instance, it does not require users to manage the AltServer on a separate Mac or PC for installation purposes. However, you are still required to manage non-notarized apps once you have installed the new AltStore Classic. The AltStore team has also announced a new app called StikDebug, which will allow on-device JIT compilation apps installed through the new Classic version of the AltStore.

This new app will basically allow iPhone users in the EU to download and install compatible emulators. It is great to see that playing Nintendo Switch games on your iPhone has never been easier than it is right now. We will share more details on the AltStore Classic and any important updates regarding it, so be sure to keep an eye out.
