The iPhone 17e’s biggest complaint was that it lacked ProMotion technology, which can only be present when Apple uses LTPO OLED panels in its more affordable offerings. However, just as the company changed its launch strategy with the base iPhone 17, we could witness a display upgrade for the iPhone 19e, but we’ll have to wait a couple of years because the unveiling isn’t expected until early 2028.
Like the rest of Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone 19e could be the company’s first low-cost offering to feature an LTPO OLED upgrade
Before the iPhone 19e’s inception, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously commented that Apple is already planning an iPhone 18e launch, with a rumor stating the Cupertino firm has finalized its plan for the latter. However, there’s no confirmation for the iPhone 19e, though ZDNet Korea appears to be confident, as the latest report mentions that Apple will bring an LTPO OLED screen to its next-generation low-cost smartphone.
This display technology was made a standard in 2025, when even the iPhone 17 shipped with it, allowing its refresh rate to range from 1Hz to 120Hz to conserve battery life. The iPhone 19e may also exhibit the same runtime advantages compared to static 60Hz LTPS OLED panels. As for why Apple may have a change of heart in bringing LTPO OLED to the iPhone 19e, it may have to do with the technology giant researching LTPO+ technology for the premium models.
LTPO+ is the superior variant of LTPO, but if Apple cannot bring these displays to the rest of the lineup, it may also affect the iPhone 19e from supporting ProMotion. After all, Apple would need to differentiate between its most affordable offering and its more expensive one, so assuming there are slight hiccups in production, the iPhone 19e may ship with the same OLED panel as the iPhone 17e and iPhone 18e.
