While the revamped version comes with a decent number of features, is it a good idea to skip an iPhone 17 purchase over the iPhone 18 because of this? Both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 support Siri AI - It’s just a question of how many features
Any iPhone with 8GB RAM or more will immediately become a recipient of Siri AI, meaning that the base iPhone 17 effortlessly makes the cut, just like the iPhone 16 before it. The only thing you need to be concerned with is the number of features you’ll get. Out of 19 features, the iPhone 18 will only support two additional ones compared to the iPhone 17, and that’s just thanks to having more RAM. However, is such a minute difference going to sway you from your purchase? Highly unlikely, and we doubt that Siri AI will be a major factor in preferring the iPhone 18 over the iPhone 17 either.
Siri AI is great, but there are other important factors that’ll determine an iPhone 18 upgrade over the iPhone 17
With just two features missing from the iPhone 17, it’s clear that Siri AI won’t be the deciding factor in your future purchase. In fact, here’s an interesting statistic for you. The base iPhone 17 has already racked up more than 30 million activations in China, and that’s a country that doesn’t even support Siri AI.
The smartphone’s popularity has more to do with its ‘price to performance’ positioning. When taking advantage of the majority of AI features, the iPhone 17 does that already, but you’ll have to ask yourself this. Is it important to wait for these additions that haven’t even arrived, or do you prioritize other perks like performance or battery life?
When should the iPhone 18 be prioritized over the iPhone 17?
In a nutshell, the iPhone 18 will be a near-carbon-copy of the iPhone 17, except for a few features like the upgraded 2nm chipset, the A20, slightly better cameras, and better and upgraded RAM. If you’re the kind of user who spends more time multitasking on your device and needs something incredibly responsive and snappy, even the iPhone 17 will do your bidding just fine.
The iPhone 18’s 2nm SoC will steer you towards better battery life and performance, while pairing the silicon with 12GB RAM will net you a decent gaming experience in AAA titles, assuming you want to engage in this activity when you’re away from your primary gaming machine or don’t own one at all. In short, we doubt Siri AI will convince you to upgrade to the iPhone 18 as there are a truckload of other reasons why you’d be interested in this handset.
However, none of these advantages will matter if the price isn’t right, which is what popularized the iPhone 17 in the first place. Assuming Apple can stick with that starting $799, there’s no doubt that the iPhone 18 will sell like hotcakes.
