Apple has made a subtle but more than welcome change to the charging speeds in the new iPhone 17 lineup. According to the latest information obtained from Apple’s website, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max can now be charged to 50 percent in about 20 minutes when plugged into a compatible USB-C power adapter. The digits are noticeably faster than the previous charging speeds, which would hit the 50 percent mark in about 30 minutes or so.
Apple improves iPhone 17 lineup charging with faster USB-C speeds, new Dynamic 60W adapter, leaving iPhone Air behind
To bolster the new charging speeds, Apple is also offering a new accessory, the “Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max”. The charger is slim and dynamic, which means that it can briefly spike to 60W charging, though it sustains 40W output due to its compact design. Apple is selling the new charger separately like always and it will be available to you for just $39 from the Apple Store or the company’s online store.
However, you are not limited to use the company’s offerings to enjoy the faster charger speeds, as Apple states that other higher-wattage USB-C chargers that meet the specifications will work just fine for fast charging. It remains to be tested how the Dynamic charger works and if it does offer faster charging speeds up to 60W, so be sure to stick around for additional details on the matter.
It is also worth noting that the ultra-thin iPhone Air does not benefit from faster wired charging speeds, which means that it is limited to speeds of the iPhone 16. You can expect the device to charge to 50 percent in about 30 minutes, which is not that bad, but it is clearly inferior to the newer models. You can pre-order the entire iPhone 17 lineup starting September 12, and it will be shipped to you on September 19.
