iPhone 17 Pro’s LTPO OLED Panel Monopoly Secured By LG And Samsung Could Be Broken By BOE As It Aims To Enter Apple’s Premium Supply Chain, After Gaining Approval Of Course

BOE reportedly producing 50 million OLEDs for the iPhone 17 Pro

Apple’s iPhone display supply chain for the top-end models has always included Samsung and LG, with BOE fulfilling the remaining orders for the less expensive handsets. One of the reasons why the California-based titan has kept the Chinese panel manufacturer limited is due to its poor grasp on maintaining quality and quantity. However, according to the latest report, there could be a massive change in the tide, with iPhone 17 Pro display orders possibly being given to BOE, assuming it successfully gains approval.

If BOE passes Apple’s strict quality control standards, it could end up receiving 50 million LTPO OLED orders for the iPhone 17 Pro

For years, BOE has been tasked with mass producing LTPS OLED panels, which would be found in Apple’s base and ‘Plus’ iPhones. Later this year, the company is taking a different path, with multiple reports claiming that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature LTPO displays that support a high refresh rate. This decision was likely taken to boost sales, but seeing as how the iPhone 16 was the best-selling model for Q1 2025, it remains to be seen how much of an impact this hardware change will make.

Regardless, a new report published by Sisajournal that was spotted by tipster @Jukanlosreve mentions the involvement of BOE, and if approved, it would produce 50 million LTPO OLEDs for the iPhone 17 Pro. The Chinese display maker could have easily secured orders for the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, which are also said to ship with the higher-quality panel, so we are unsure of why Apple placed the responsibility on BOE to mass produce a part for the more premium version.

Of course, the massive order is subject to approval, but obtaining Apple’s business has always been a tumultuous journey for BOE, as the latter has been unable to fix its quality control problems. Earlier this year, we reported that the manufacturer could not fulfill its 40 million LTPS OLED orders for Apple, as it only supplied between 7-8 million units. The gap was eventually filled by Samsung and LG, but if BOE has been tasked with producing 50 million iPhone 17 Pro orders, it might have made serious upgrades to its production facilities, and in the process, put the monopoly of Samsung and LG at risk.

Then again, it is crucial to treat all of this information with a pinch of salt, and we will return with more updates. After all, this is not the first time that we have heard of BOE undertaking a massive responsibility and coming up short.
