Apple makes it easier to replace iPhone 16 battery with new technology

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models are worthy upgrades if you are coming from the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, and we have a plethora of reasons to support the claim. For one, the company has embedded a lot of changes on the devices, especially the standard iPhone 16, which now features a redesigned layout for the rear cameras. However, the company has also made some internal changes that allow for easier battery replacement on the entire iPhone 16 lineup.

iPhone 16's internal design makes it easier for service professionals to replace the battery

The latest iPhone 16 releases come with a new internal design which benefits repairability a lot, as the company states that the standard models have been "reengineered" to make battery services easier, which also opens doors to better thermals and performance. This year, the company has incorporated a bigger battery on the standard models thanks to the new internal design.

Apple's press release says:

The internal design of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus has been reengineered to allow for an even larger battery and to better dissipate heat, while making battery service easier.

It was previously noted that Apple plans to make batteries easier to replace with a new electrically induced adhesive debonding technology. At this point, details related to the thermals and battery replacement are scarce and we will share more details on the device when iFixit or JerryRigEverything is done with its first teardown of the device. For now, we have to go with Apple's battery replacement claims.

We believe that the company's change for easier battery replacement comes into play after the European Union is set to enforce new legislation in 2025, which will make battery replacement easier for professional service providers in the region. However, it remains to be seen if the new battery replacement technology is in line with the EU's regulations.

On the flip side, Apple's press release for the iPhone 16 Pro does not mention any changes related to battery repairability. This brings us to question if the changes have been implemented only on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. As mentioned, more details will be unveiled in the forthcoming teardown. Both models of the iPhone 16 received their fair share of improvements on the outside as well as the inside, which makes them a solid upgrade over their predecessors. We will wait for the tech community to conduct real-world tests, which will give us an even better picture of the changes.
