Apple is working on a fix for the M4 iPad Pro bricking issue after iPadOS 18 update

Apple released iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to the general public earlier this week, and the latter has already started bricking some iPad Pro models. We have previously covered how the new iPadOS 18 update was causing issues on some M4 iPad Pro models while users were trying to install the update. Apple is very quick when it comes to fixing its devices and updates with new software releases, and while it was not known if the company was aware of the issue, the company has started working on a fix.

Apple has started working on a fix for iPadOS 18 issue that was bricking some M4 iPad Pro models

Apple has shared an internal memo with the Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, acknowledging the issue with iPadOS 18 update on iPad Pro models with the new M4 chip (via MacRumors). The memo states that a "small number" of M4 iPad Pro users who attempted to install the new iPadOS 18 update are having trouble turning on their devices. The company is working on filing the issue for good.

Soon after the issue came to light, it was discovered that the company had pulled the update for the affected devices. This means that users who are trying to install iPadOS 18 on M4 iPad Pro models will not see the update in the Settings app. Once Apple resolves the issue, the company will release a dedicated update with a fix for the bricking issue on the iPhone.

Apple has also suggested technicians attempt to force restart the M4 iPad Pro models which are affected by the bricking issue. Since Apple has acknowledged the issue, it remains to be seen when the company might see fit to release the update for iPad Pro users. It could arrive next week at the earliest and if it does not, the update could take a few weeks.

We would recommend users restore their M4 iPad Pro via Finder or iTunes to resume their functionality. It is a strange bug that is bricking the iPad Pro models, but sooner or later, the company will fix the issue.
