iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 to bring Stage Manager and Menu Bar on the iPhone and iPad for better multitasking

iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 will be released with some pretty major design changes, which will improve the productivity of the devices. A new rumor claims that the company will bring Stage Manager to the iPhone along with a Menu Bar to iPadOS 19, both of which offer enhanced multitasking capabilities. We have previously reported that the update will bring a plethora of visual changes to the platform inspired by visionOS and its translucent effects throughout the operating system, and the new additions will only make it better.

iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 expected to raise the bar when it comes to multitasking on the devices with Stage Manager and a new Menu Bar

The news was shared by Majin Bu on his website, claiming that iOS 19 will make your iPhone more powerful than it ever was with a new Stage Manager-like interface via external display support. This will greatly enhance the productivity of iPhone users, and if you are not familiar with it, Samsung has already implemented this approach through its DeX mode for all Galaxy-branded devices.

The way this feature will work is simple: once you connect the iPhone to an external display via USB-C, a whole new interface will appear, allowing you to use the existing apps on the iPhone while also managing them in a Stage Manager-like interface for better multitasking capabilities on the external display. The feature will basically transform your iPhone into a Mac-like machine, and it is perfectly viable considering the performance level of the latest iPhone models.

iOS 19 isn’t being left behind. Source say[s] iPhones with USB-C will support external displays, offering a Stage Manager like interface. While not a full desktop mode, it will allow users to extend their screen space, great for presentations, editing, or enhanced viewing.

Currently, you do have the option to connect your iPhone to an external display, but it only mirrors the device instead of adding any functionality. If the rumor has any heft to it, iOS 19 will be one of the biggest updates the iPhone has ever received.

Majin Bu also shared details on iPadOS 19, suggesting that the iPad will gain a new Menu Bar on the top similar to the one that you see on the Mac. It will allow users to perform a boatload of actions and overall make it easier for users to control the content and apps that are running. For instance, users will have more control over open apps and a wide range of other options.

Currently, the accuracy of the implementation of the Menu Bar is unknown, and it is not known if it will be identical to the Mac. Based on initial information, we can safely presume that the company will offer exclusive controls related to the iPad and its productivity aspects. We do not expect the company to offer a replica of the Mac's Menu Bar on the iPad, as both devices have different means of control. It is also being reported that the Menu Bar will only be activated once the iPad is connected to a keyboard, which makes sense, to be fair.

One of the most exciting changes will benefit those using the iPad with a Magic Keyboard. When connected, the interface will adapt to show a menu bar at the top, just like on macOS, turning the iPad into a much more laptop-like experience.

Another key update is Stage Manager 2.0, an enhanced multitasking mode that activates automatically when the keyboard is attached. It will make managing apps and windows smoother and more productive than ever.

It is too early to draw final speculations on iOS 19's Stage Manager and iPadOS 19's Menu Bar, so be sure to keep an eye out for more information. Apple will announce iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 at its WWDC event in June, and we will cover the event in extensive detail. Do you think Apple should port macOS to the iPad?
