Apple is slowly giving users more control over the iPhone’s charge level, likely helping customers lower their battery replacement visits. Previously, the iPhone 15 models shipped with three battery health features: Optimized Battery Charging, 80% limit, and None, and these allowed you to prioritize either the iPhone runtime or maximize battery health. With iOS 18, which you can learn how to prepare your iPhone for right now, users are getting more control over their device’s charge level, the update offers 5 percent increments to help them find the right balance.
iPhone charge levels can now be at 90 percent, giving users slightly more battery life while improving health
Previously, the iPhone charge level could be set at 80 percent or 100 percent, but nothing in between. With just two options, users had few possibilities, as they would have to sacrifice the iPhone’s runtime for better longevity or vice versa. However, thanks to iOS 18, Apple Hub shares that this is all going to change, starting with the number of charge level options that you get.
Now, instead of two, you have a total of five, with 80 percent being the lowest, and you can increase that charge level in 5 percent increments, optimizing a balance of total iPhone runtime and battery health. Our personal take is that the 90 percent charge level will be the absolute sweet spot, and with the iPhone 16 models expected to feature bigger batteries than their direct predecessors, future buyers will have a fun time tweaking these settings in an attempt to get the best possible battery life while ensuring that the cell offers the most extended lifespan possible.

Unfortunately, one important detail missing from this feature is that the post does not mention whether these expanded charge levels will be available for just the iPhone 15 series or earlier models too.
