The Core Ultra 3 series is finally catching up to faster processors, thanks to a higher core count. In an early review, the entry-level Core Ultra 3 205 just demolished Core i3 14100 processor.
Core Ultra 3 205 Delivers 13,394 Points in Cinebench R23 Multi-Core Test, 48% Higher Than i3 14100, and Delivers 75% Higher Time Spy Graphics Score
Very recently, we saw Core Ultra 3 205 dominating the Core i3 14100 in multi-threaded performance in Geekbench. However, Geekbench isn't the best place to compare two processors, but we now have the comparison of both CPUs in the Cinebench R23, which is far more accurate in testing the prowess of CPUs. As shown by the Korean reviewer Bulls Lab, the Core Ultra 3 205 is nearly 50% faster in multi-threaded performance than the Core i3 14100.
This is a massive gain over the predecessor, which makes the Core Ultra 3 205 the fastest Intel Core 3 series processor ever. Keep in mind that the Core i3 14100 is a quad-core CPU, while the Core Ultra 3 205 has twice the number of cores, but it's great to see the Core 3 series getting a big jump in the core count. The i3 14100 does have hyperthreading enabled, but the Core Ultra 3 205 brings a hybrid combo of 4 Performance cores and 4 Efficient cores.
The Cinebench result clearly shows a drastic difference in performance, but unfortunately, the reviewer didn't reveal the single-threaded performance, which we don't expect to bring such huge uplifts. Nonetheless, the Core Ultra 3 205 is now closer to the Core Ultra 5 225 than the Core i3 14100. The Ultra 5 225 is the slowest Core Ultra 5 processor and has two more cores. Coming to the iGPU performance, the reviewer tested the UHD 730 graphics on the i3 14100 against the Core Ultra 3 205's iGPU, which boasts 2 GPU cores based on Xe architecture, and runs at up to 1800 MHz.
Since it is as powerful as the iGPU on the Core Ultra 5 225, we are seeing almost no difference in the iGPU performance in the Time Spy Graphics, but compared to the UHD Graphics 730, the iGPU on Ultra 3 205 delivers a massive 75% uplift. Hopefully, the processor costs around $120, giving an excellent option for those who are on a tight budget. But at the same time, users can opt for processors like Core i5 14400F, which costs around $130-$140 and delivers 10 cores/16 threads, and likely better gaming performance.
