Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU Hits 5.9 GHz Across All Cores, Delidded Benchmarks Show Power Consumption of Over 430 Watts

The Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU's first delidded pictures have surfaced from the same user who brought us the package shots a few days ago. These might be the first pictures of a delidded i9-14900KS chip but they are nothing new compared to what we have already seen with the Intel 14900K since both are identical chips with identical core configurations and the only difference comes in their binning which allows higher clock speeds on the "KS" SKU.

Just like the other premium chips, the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU makes use of a solder with TIM application between the IHS and the CPU die. The IHS also features gold plating for thermal load dissipation off the CPU die. The first thing that the user did was to replace the standard TIM with premium liquid metal and put it within the direct die mount. The testing was done with the IHS installed so this isn't a pure direct-die cooling test.

Benchmarks used by Cinebench R24 (MT) and Y-Cruncher (MT). In both tests, the Intel Core i9-14900KS barely outperformed the existing Core i9-14900K since clock speeds can only do so much. One thing the 14900KS did excel or lack was the power consumption which was hovering around the 380-400W mark in both benchmarks and hit a peak of 432W which is staggering for this class of a chip.

The voltage peaked at 1.385V and it looks like the liquid metal application did help with the temps as they barely crossed the 90C mark. Compared to the stock IHS, the Liquid Metal IHS shows an 8-10C drop in temperatures and one can expect these to drop further if you plan on going the proper direct-die cooling route.

Additionally, based on a post by Momomo_US, it looks like motherboard manufacturers such as Gigabyte are prepping up new high-end motherboards exclusively optimized for the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU. Its upcoming Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Xtreme X ICE motherboard will feature exclusive performance profiles and optimizations for Intel's flagship "Special Edition" SKU so expect more info to be released close to the launch of the chip which is scheduled to hit retail shelves next week on the 14th of March.
