A mysterious Intel Arc A750 GPU sample has been spotted with a massive 512-bit bus, 16 GB GDDR6 memory, and dual 8-pin connectors.
Intel's Arc A750 GPU Sample Features A Massive 512-bit Bus, Also Houses 16 GB GDDR6 Memory
The GPU sample was obtained by X user, komenezumi1006, who states that he managed to get his hands on a 16 GB variant of the Arc A750 graphics card. The Arc A750 was released back in 2022 and features 28 Xe cores based on the Alchemist Xe-HPG architecture. The GPU features a 256-bit bus interface and supports 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. The higher-end Arc A770 featured a 16 GB variant in addition to the 8 GB model and also offered 32 Xe cores.
However, it looks like an Intel Arc A750 sample from GUNNIR seems to have it labeled as a 16 GB variant, along with a 512-bit bus interface. This is a very wide bus, double that of the 256-bit bus that is featured on the ACM-G10 GPU. Is it possible that at some point, Intel was planning to go with a 512-bit bus with its Alchemist lineup before moving back to a 256-bit bus, which still enabled 16 GB memory but in a more cost-effective manner?
There could've been a possibility that GUNNIR was simply using two GPUs and combining the VRAM / Bus interfaces in the label, but upon viewing the PCB, that doesn't seem to be the case. The card can be seen housing just one retention bracket for one GPU. Intel's partners have made dual-GPU solutions with the Arc Pro B60 series, but those feature 192-bit bus interfaces and up to 24 GB of memory.
The graphics card features a dual-slot blower-style cooler and has two 8-pin connectors that can deliver up to 300W of power. The Arc A750 has a reference TBP of 225W. The GPU shows up with its 16.0 GB VRAM in the task manager and seems to be operational. A GPU-z screenshot can show us even more details, especially on that 512-bit bus and what pin speeds were used for the memory.
Overall, it looks like even if Intel planned 512-bit bus graphics cards, those plans were abandoned early on. Intel is currently prepping its high-end Arc Battlemage GPU, presumably the B770, for launch, which should feature a 256-bit bus and 16 GB memory.
