As it was previously expected, Instagram has officially announced and released its new long-form video service, IGTV on the App Store. The app was detailed in an event held in San Francisco today. IGTV is a brand new social platform which is oriented towards bridging the “audiences closer to the creators they love.” The new platform will allow content creators to share their videos on the platform which can be as long as 1 hour. Instagram's IGTV App Is Now Available On The App Store, Now Has 1 Billion Users

Instagram's new video service app is aimed directly at YouTube which will allow creators to upload full-screen videos up to 1-hour in length. The IGTV app starts playing as soon as you open the application. This means that you will not have to search for a video to get started. However, the discover feature is available when you swipe up.

“Five years after the launch of video on Instagram, we are excited to introduce IGTV which brings audiences closer to the creators they love. We are re-envisioning mobile video with a new standalone surface that features longer videos and easy discoverability through channels, all in a vertical format that sits upright, in the palm of your hand.”

Instagram shared some stats on its website promoting the IGTV that mobile video content will make up for 80 percent of the total mobile data traffic in the next three years. In addition to this, Instagram also stated that the young audience watches more amateur content.
