A Redditor shared his RMA experience with Inno3D, which, instead of accepting RMA, asked him to replace the thermal paste himself.
Redditor Says Inno3D Asked Him to Open the Card and Replace Thermal Paste to Fix Thermal Issues on RTX 4090
The GPU shortages must be hitting hard, and with the increasing scarcity of last-gen GPUs, some vendors are offering weird advice to their customers. One of the recent victims is the u/Individual-Rip4396, who reported problems with his Inno3d GeForce RTX 4090 iChill. The Redditor says his GPU was working completely fine for two years, but for over two weeks now, it has been exhibiting some weird behaviors.
As per his provided screenshots and videos, the RTX 4090 is causing black artifacts on the screen. Sometimes his GPU crashes unexpectedly under full load, and in some cases, he has to force-reboot his PC to get out of the system freeze. The user says he has tried to troubleshoot the issue, and has checked his cables and PSU to see if there is any culprit. He reports that no overclocking has been performed and the GPU driver is up to date, yet he continues to experience artifacts and frequent freezes.
He gave up and contacted Inno3d for an RMA, but the company recommended that he apply through the retailer. User says his 2-year warranty from the retailer has expired, but he still has one year left from Inno3d. Inno3d, however, insisted that he go through the retailer, but later on, gave him a weird suggestion. While the user didn't post a screenshot of the email/message, he says that Inno3d advised him to open up his card and replace the thermal paste on the GPU himself.
This often voids the warranty as it involves removing the warranty stickers. The user refused because not only will this put his card at risk, but it also doesn't guarantee a fix. As per his OCCT reports, he is getting several errors within minutes, even before his GPU hits critical temperatures. After some time, Inno3d did accept his RMA request, but it appeared that the company tried to avoid dealing with this situation.
