The software's upcoming version will be adding support for the next-gen Intel and AMD processors and platforms, as revealed in the release notes.

HWiNFO v8.31 Release Notes Confirm Intel's Nova Lake-S, and Will Reportedly Support AMD's Next-Gen Platform As Well

This is probably the first time the upcoming Nova Lake-S, which is a desktop processor family from Intel, has been spotted in the release notes of a software. We mostly saw Nova Lake-S mentioned in NBD shipping manifests, but the popular hardware monitoring software, HWiNFO, just mentioned it in the release notes of the upcoming version 8.30.

The new version of the HWiNFO will be released in the near future and will add support for Nova Lake-S. Previously, Intel Nova Lake got added to HWiNFO's database twice, but it was mentioned as a whole family rather than a mobile/desktop-specific series. We know from recent reports that Intel's Nova Lake S is in the Pre-QS stage and is expected to utilize the LGA 1954 platform. While the shipping manifest revealed a 28-core variant, a more recent one showed that Nova Lake-S could feature up to 52-core variant.

The core configuration is expected to be 16 P-cores + 32 E-Cores + 4 LP-E cores, which is the highest on the mainstream desktop platform. That said, by adding support for Nova Lake-S in HWiNFO, the software is getting ready to report the specifications of the processors correctly. However, there is one more interesting update we are going to see in version 8.31, which is the addition of AMD's "next-generation" platforms. This is likely referring to the AMD 900-series motherboards, which will succeed the current-gen AM5 800-series.

Since various reports have indicated that the next-gen AMD processors, aka Zen 6, will utilize the AM5 socket as well, we can assume that these are the upcoming X970, B950, and B940 chipsets. Naming convention hasn't been confirmed, but AMD will likely follow up with the 900-series naming. The AMD 900-series platform should come out alongside Zen 6 processors, and it's expected that these will be out in the second half of 2026.

AMD Zen 6 is expected to utilize TSMC's 2nm "N2P" node for the CCDs and 3nm "N3P" node for the IOD. All in all, one should expect both Intel Nova Lake-S and AMD Zen 6 to be released next year, offering leading specifications for the mainstream desktop platform, further fueling the CPU war.
